New York Times recently reported that, apps operating on the software of the company ‘Alphonso’ used your smartphone’s mic to record what you’re watching on your phones. Your smartphone stalking your is probably the last thing you might want to know. Business has become a very filthy way to people’s privacy. Though the fact is having a social media account itself is the end of your privacy. Whom are we kidding?

Did you ever notice, you talk to your friend about an ad and it suddenly pop’s up everywhere you go? Because that data is connected you to those ads by stalking you. Scary, isn’t it? Gaming apps like Pool 3D, Beer Pong: Trickshot and Real Bowling Strike 10 Pin, Honey Quest to name a few are some of the apps which keeps track of your viewing habits once downloaded. Google Instant no doubt is a helping hand allowing us to be a bit lazier, and give our hands some rest. This feature was introduced by Google in 2010. Thank Marissa Mayer, who made it a default feature helping you to lay your hands off the keyboard giving it some beauty revival. To disable google instant is not easy for the same reason mentioned above.

However, in situations of slow internet connections, you might want to make use of your hands a bit more to avoid those extra kbps used by Google Instant. Before the secrets are revealed, one must be clear it is “The Technology Giant Google” so the changes occurred may not be permanent and may help you fix the issue for time being. Anyway, I don’t see a reason one would want to fix this permanently, Da-ah!

Let’s hop-into the non-official methods that might be helpful for you to disable Google Instant:

  • Google Suggest:

Disabling Google Suggest is a bit off the track since Google has not provided us with this option, because it’s an option! It is a rule, it’s the default!

All you need is to be a bit patient, put some efforts, and try these options:

 Browser Homepage:

You can save your data by changing your default homepage of the browser to the websites which have google suggest disables:

  1. http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0  –  complete=0 is a URL parameter which will not give you any suggested search options in the dropbox. Yup! No poking nose Google!
  2. http://www.google.com/m – this google search engine site will allow you to search and do your projects, researches, or work without any suggestion on your phone.
  3. https://encrypted.google.com/ – SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is used by this google search providing you with no Google Instant feature and still gives you the option to disable suggestions separately.

2. Firefox Users:

? AdBlock Plus gives you the option to block the following extensions from the directory:

http://www.google.com/extern_js/

As mentioned before about the features of this software, you might want to consider installing it.

? Blacklisting Google by installing YesScript or NoScript addon might as well help you but remember, this will lead to disabling JavaScript throughout the site.

? Greasemonkey Script is another alternative you can install

Follow the steps after installing it:

Navigate Tools > Greasemonkey > Manage User Scripts,

Select the script in the list ( Script have to be modified to work according to the local google version)

Click “Add” and use the Google URL you use, for example, http://www.google.com/*

3. Google Chrome:

Google chrome is a bit more complex. Though the extension NotScripts allows users to get rid of the Google Suggest. Though the tests were positive with this extension for the time being I’m not sure about its limitations.

  1. Google Instant:

This another way to disable google instant without having to disable Google Suggest.

1. Firefox:

Firefox has provided with an add-on called Fastest Search which provides you with google instant in the first which you can disable in its options. It works well. But there might be chances that it may reappear as I mentioned before.

2. Google Chrome:

There’s no such way of disabling Google Instant from chrome because I couldn’t find a lot of options to do that. Though if you really want to get rid of this feature you may try the above-mentioned way, which may help your way through for some time. Though there’s no guarantee that will disappear permanently.

  1. Google Instant Preview:

Previously, I promised that AdBlock Plus does multitasking and is free for Androids and IOS. Adding one more feature to it, AdBlock Plus also disables Google Instant Preview. By adding the following filters to your addon’s  preference you can activate this feature:

google.com###vspb   

Greasemonkey Script also helps you to disable the Google Instant preview though it’ll continue having a magnifying glass which may not work.

Installation and Set up

  • Evernote has a dedicated website for Skitch from where it can be downloaded directly. Users can opt skitch for mac free download option present on the website or for Mac users, the Skitch App is available at the Mac App Store itself.
  • Skitch App setup works in two ways. The first way is where you can log in directly with your Evernote credentials through which all screenshots will automatically be posted to a notebook. The other way is to go for the ‘Do this later’ option and Skitch for Mac can be used via standalone mode.

Collecting Images

Images can be captured through Skitch App in three ways.

  • The application has a screenshot option on the top of its window which on pressing creates the required image
  • Skitch comes with a separate capture menu in order to take images directly
  • Images can also be captured through Mac’s inbuilt features of different types of snapshot options

One thing to remember is that while capturing an image or while taking a screenshot, the application should be running on the backend. After a screenshot is taken, the image opens directly in the application and where further editing can be done.

Other options include:

  • Selecting existing device image which is available as a copy within the application
  • A clipboard image directly copied onto the Skitch canvas for editing
  • Opening PDFs of a different app directly in Skitch

Annotations

Annotations are the actual reason to use Skitch for featured images. The various tools and options offered by Skitch to mark or edit the image are truly applaudable.

Arrows – The basic user tool to inscribe detailing in an image, arrows make the featured image more worthy in every sense.

  • Select the arrow tool on the left-hand side of the toolbar and by dragging and dropping, arrows will be automatically added non-specifically to the editable image.
  • Drag and release shapes the arrow into direction. It is pretty easy. Redirect the arrow in whichever way you want by just dragging it across the image.
  • For sizing the arrow or to colour it differently, a colour swatch present on the left side will do the work which can be done before or after dragging it on the canvas.

Text – Textboxes are a necessary tool in every editing application and Skitch provides the same.

  • There is an ‘a’ icon on the toolbar which when clicked and dragged will create a textbox on the canvas.
  • Resizing is allowed by just stretching or shortening the corners and repositioning is done just by dragging. Colour change option is also available
  • Click on the box and start typing

Shapes – illustrative tools comprising of circles, boxes, etc are available in Skitch.

  • Select your desired shape from the toolbar on the left side and go by the same process of drag and drop

Highlights and Drawings – For any freehand drawings and highlighting of text or change of colours, this tool serves the purpose right.

Stamps – Skitch has 5 stamp options to choose from.

  • Use them directly on your image by dragging and dropping and reposition it accordingly to fit your requirements.

Pixelate – This tool is amazing if someone wants to blur a portion of their image.

  • Select the tool from the toolbar and drag it over whichever area of the image you want to blur out

Cropping

Another indispensable tool to use Skitch for featured images is cropping. The last icon in the toolbar has the cropping functionality.

  • Click the tool and the entire image is set to be cropped
  • Drag the corners and select apply to save changes
  • Resizing option is also available that enables the user to change image specifications as per desired proportions. Press apply to save changes
  • There is a flipping and rotating option available too at the top of the window for a quick fix of your images on the canvas

  • There is a ‘Drag Me’ option available at the bottom of the application which when clicked makes the image draggable which can then be placed anywhere on the Mac
  • More detailed saving options appear by just pressing Command+E
  • The general copy paste option also applies here
  • One can also share the edited image in Skitch directly on Twitter, Facebook, mail, etc. There is a share arrow on the window itself that prompts the user to choose their desired service.
