Graphic design scene is quite old and goes back to the stone-age, when people chalked and cut their images into stone. Evolution of graphic design from the periods of stone-age to present day computer designs is briefly surveyed here.

Computer graphics started, when computers entered the market. In the beginning only some simple pictures could be drawn. Today we have tablets that can make pictures ten thousand times better than what the first software could draw. All these have become possible only because of the processor speed and the great development in software.

The levels that graphic design has gone through, how technology changed its course and how it continued to evolve through the years have been briefly touched upon in the following.

15,000 to 10,000 BC: The first known visual communication, with pictographs and symbols in the Lascaux caves in France.

3600 BC: The Blau Monument, the oldest artifact known to combine words and pictures.

105 AD: Chinese invented paper

1917: James Montgomery Flagg designed the famous poster for the army.

1940: First issue of Print Magazine printed.

1956: Paul Rand designed IBM logo using City Medium Typeface
