At Control4, we live and breathe this stuff. It’s what makes us “tick.” We’ve been perfecting the automated home for over 10 years now and it’s amazing to see how far it has come. Besides the obvious cool factor, one of the biggest benefits of a smart home is that it gives individuals and families the ability to have their home work for them, just as it fits their lifestyle. It can be catered directly to their specific wants and needs.

Your home theater can automatically adjust the blinds, temperature and lighting to accommodate your ideal movie-watching experience. With a one-button press, your entire home can shut itself down, locking the doors and arming the alarm, all at once as you leave for work in the morning. This isn’t the future, this is NOW.

We couldn’t help but wonder what people of today think the “house of the future” will look like—or what they want in their own futuristic smart home. So we took a survey and compiled some of our favorite responses into an infographic. Some may be possible, many are quite interesting, and a few are just downright outlandish.

So…What do you want in your futuristic smart home?

A Few Things That May Surprise You About Digital Signage Solutions

0

We’re you’re in business in the twenty-first century, delivering the right message to the right audience can mean the difference between unparalleled success and utter failure. Today, consumers are bombarded by a multitude of messages across an ever-expanding field of media, which means differentiating your brand and standing out from the competition is harder than ever. That’s why digital signage solutions are more popular and more in demand than ever before: panel display, universal mount, and freestanding modules, along with full outdoor displays and custom-cut LCDs, all deliver your message with professionalism and poise, and can now be found everywhere from college campuses, business districts, airports, bus stations, roadways, to the suburban mall or fast food joint. No matter the location and software used, marketers are able to engage their audience with this new exciting technology.

Digital Signage Solutions

Dynamic digital signage provides much more than what dated, stand alone, paper billboards of yesterday could offer. While having a static billboard may now seem obsolete, the principle behind their operation still remains a stalwart feature of how we broadcast messages. All that’s needed is a computer with a network interface, and on-screen data can be updated to real time. Multiple screens in a multitude of locations can be updated simultaneously. Importantly, animation, scrolling text, and sound are easily incorporated, revolutionizing the static interface of the traditional billboard.

People seem to enjoy and respond positively to screen-based advertising. According to recent research, over 80 percent of consumers watched digital signage, 70 percent said that digital signage was entertaining, and 41 percent claimed they would be more likely to visit a retailer or other location based on digital signage alone. More consumers could recall the products from digital advertising compared to standard television ads watched in the same day.

There are other ways of measuring ROI than dollars and cents. Measuring digital signage marketing efforts have traditionally evaluated their impact in terms of sales. One newer solution for marketers is the use of Anonymous Video Analytics (or AVA), where cameras embedded in digital signs record audience facial responses and impressions, which are then measured and tabulated. While protecting viewers’ privacy, the feature records length of observation, gender, age, and other categories—invaluable information for the modern marketer. The longer the exposure time to the message, the better. Studies have been performed comparing audience responses to digital versus paper billboards, calculating the resulting metrics via exposure time. Over a period of several months, results show that more people view digital signage than paper-based, and importantly, they look at the advertisements for longer periods of time.

High-end commercial LCD monitors for digital signage are available in a wide variety of display sizes. LCD units include backlit displays, media boxes, hosting, licensing, and multiple-year service contracts as part of the typical packages available for installation. Customizable video and animation, text and graphical elements for logos, and cloud-based content management are also often included. Software packages include document workflows for managing and sharing documents and document output management for fully secured printing, scanning, faxing and copying. Data is completely secured and includes DRM. With all the available options and cutting-edge technology, it’s now a piece of cake to find commercial digital signage solutions that offer exciting new avenues of revenue for all businesses, no matter what state, size, or strategy. Don’t be afraid to ask, shop, and research around to find the best deals and best packages.

technology tips for small business

  • Explore outsourcing for some admin operations

Outsourcing is a fast, reliable and cheaper avenue for small businesses that experience time constraints with a small and limited staff. By employing the assistance of virtual employees, you can save on expenses, including office space, and conserve energy and time in order to focus on more immediate things that need your attention. Having remote, off-site employees answering your calls or responding to email queries and performing other functions would be a good way of managing your time.

  • Know your analytics data

Having your own website and online store and making things as responsive and customer-friendly as possible all add up to a few good reasons that will help your business along. But how do you determine what strategies work best or what results you are getting? To get the answers to this, you need to keep up with your analytics.

Several platforms for getting analytics data are available, letting you be aware of your website traffic and your online sales data. Make sure to always include this part on your to-update list as it could mean more improvement and more revenue for your small business.

  • Don’t skip the security and make sure to back things up

With so many data loss dangers lurking all over the web, it is must for businesses to back all their information up so as not to lose anything. Small businesses need this as much as bigger companies do. With a small operation, the business relies very much on data and so the need for backup is strong.

Backing up data can be achieved through several options. You can opt to purchase kits or go for a remote backup service such as the highly popular cloud storage, offered by many platforms such as Dropbox and Google Drive. By going in the cloud, you can maximize data storage without going for expensive kits.

  • Consider investing on employees’ personal devices for business

Since technological devices are present in all aspects of life these days, whether at home or at work, many employees tend to bring their own devices on the job. With this in mind, you can consider investing on personal devices for work use, going for a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) scheme that could maximize work efficiency in the office. You already have mobile options at hand when running the business, so why not let your employees in on it, too, and let them always be ready and on-the-go?

  • Opt for teleconferences and other remote communication options

With so many aspects of the business that you’re tending to, you and your employees could find yourselves in places far from the office. Consider this: you’re staying at home making calls to valuable contacts or at a lunch meet-up with business partners and you need to keep up with your team’s progress, what options could you have for fast connection and communication?

The answer lies in teleconferencing. Whether you’re Skyping or using GoToMeeting or other options to continuously collaborate with your team while you’re away, it is a good thing to keep in mind how important this technological avenue is.

These technology tips are the basic things that you need to keep in mind for your small business. Get your business going with these and make sure you are going the right way where technology is concerned.
