All the gamers are well aware of Discord. It is a cross-platform chat service which gamers use to communicate with the team members. It is used by people across the globe by game clans to chat over voice or text. A lot of people have taken it up a notch by adding bots to it which can make this messaging service twice the fun. Some bots can help you share memes while some can show you a detailed score card. It is a great way to customize your gaming experience through some cool features by adding bots to the server.
There are hundreds of discord bots available in the market, they have many different uses, some are really productive while some are well, not so productive but more fun based. In the recent past, bots started having a bad rap because some of them were designed to sell, annoy, collect data, etc. Which created a very bad reputation for these bots. However, if you stay away from the bad bots, discord bots can be used for a lot of productive reasons.
Now adding these bots might look like rocket science to you but don't worry, it's not. The steps are quite simple; however you will need to have 'Manage Server' permissions on the server that you are currently using. We will talk about that further in this guide. So if you have an ideal discord bot you want to add but don’t know how to do that, here are all the steps.
Steps to add bots to your server
Before we start here's a little disclaimer, to add any discord bot onto your server, you shall require the admin access to it, it is also called as 'Manage Server' which I mentioned earlier. So make sure you have this bit sorted, otherwise things are pretty easy. Also make sure that you are logged in to the server, some bots don't require this step but some do.
Log in to your Discord account through the website. Click on the 'General permissions' tab on the server, and then make sure the following three tabs are marked check: Manage Channels, Manage Permissions, and Manage Webhooks.
Now go to source, where the bot you want to add is availabe. They will have and option called 'Invite Bot' or 'Add Bot to server.' Click on it.
Once you click on it, a pop up window will open asking you to select a server on which you want the add the bot. Make your choice.
Click on 'Authorize' and verify a captcha if they give you any.
And Voila! It's done. If you open the Discord server, you will see the newly added bot in the sidebar.
There is also another way in which you can add a bot to your server:
Even here you should first log in to the Discord server.
Step 1: Open the browser you and and paste the following URL: https://discordapp.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=<Bot_Client_ID>&scope=bot&permissions=0
Step 2: Now replace the <Bot_Client_ID> in the URL with the client ID of the bot you want to add in your server.
Step 3: Authorize your Bot. You might not need this step at all, because the command URL uses 'Oauth2' to do the same.
And, there you go! You can use both these methods to add a bot to your Discord server. Now just lay back, and enjoy these bots work their magic with all the fun features they have to offer. It can be sharing interesting memes with your clan, or getting a better view of the scores, or something else.
A little about Authorization
Discord is very careful when it comes to its bots. So sometimes the authorization may need to be done a couple of times for it to work. As mentioned before they do use Oauth2 which filters out permitted bots and allows them the access to interact. But there are still chances of you having to do the last step again and again until it works. You may get a message like, 'this app cannot read or send messages on your behalf' when this happens theres a 'authorize' button placed underneath that pop-up, you just have to find it and click it.
Discord bots are very popular amongst gamers and are used internationally. They are honestly quite fun to use, and adds a spice to your gaming experience. If you are looking for a repository for some good useful bots you should definitely check out Carbonite website, they have an array of some amazing bots you can try out.
