Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. recently unveiled the Qualcomm 315 5G IoT, first-ever purpose-built Internet of Things (IoT) modem solution with 5G connectivity and optimized for Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications. The new 5G technology is set to be on the market in late 2021.
The Qualcomm 315 5G IoT Modem-RF System is an integrated modem-to-antenna solution designed to assist the IoT Digital environment in designing optimized LTE and 5G devices for IoT verticals, accelerate IoT 5G connection adoption, and enhance the total opportunity for 5G in the IoT sector.
5G was designed as a broad connection fabric, and the momentum is now beginning to demonstrate the predicted effect and growth of 5G for developing applications such as IoT. Furthermore, due to its small size and fully integrated RF front-end, this solution broadens the range by providing a pin-to-pin compatible solution for existing LTE legacy modules. This enables older modules to update their solutions with minimal modifications to current hardware, reducing development time and costs while ensuring a smooth migration from LTE to 5G.
It also supports worldwide 5G NR sub-6GHz bands and runs in stand-alone (SA) mode alone, with the flexibility to transition to LTE modem as needed, and maybe deployed across private or public 5G networks using network slicing or in solitude. This solution is ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) applications that can be smoothly integrated with current ethernet and cable devices. The new modem includes longer life software/hardware service and repair, extending the life of IoT devices.
