The Qualcomm 315 5G IoT is poised to propel and grow the 5G IoT Industry

Qualcomm is the world’s foremost pioneer in digital networks and wireless communication. They are also the central figure behind the development, launch, and spread of 5G.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. recently unveiled the Qualcomm 315 5G IoT, first-ever purpose-built Internet of Things (IoT) modem solution with 5G connectivity and optimized for Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications. The new 5G technology is set to be on the market in late 2021.

Qualcomm 315 5G IoT

The Qualcomm 315 5G IoT Modem-RF System is an integrated modem-to-antenna solution designed to assist the IoT Digital environment in designing optimized LTE and 5G devices for IoT verticals, accelerate IoT 5G connection adoption, and enhance the total opportunity for 5G in the IoT sector.

5G was designed as a broad connection fabric, and the momentum is now beginning to demonstrate the predicted effect and growth of 5G for developing applications such as IoT. Qualcomm Technologies is at the vanguard of helping the ecosystem with solutions to upgrade existing IoT systems and make 5G for IoT a reality, acting as a facilitator for digitalization.

The requirements of contemporary IoT also include a smooth transition of wired factories to wireless with systems that can handle both LTE and 5G connections. The Qualcomm 315 5G IoT modem was engineered with premium gigabit-class performance, low-power, and thermal-efficient characteristics in mind to allow a new generation of fast, powerful, and high-performing IoT solutions. The Qualcomm 315 5G IoT modem is designed to satisfy the demands of a variety of industries, including commerce, power, robotics and production, precision agriculture, construction, mining, public venues, and others.

The Qualcomm 315 5G IoT modem is a new solution for the top end of IoT broadband modems, augmenting Qualcomm Technologies’ existing line of IoT LTE modems with a roadmap towards 5G proliferation. Furthermore, due to its small size and fully integrated RF front-end, this solution broadens the range by providing a pin-to-pin compatible solution for existing LTE legacy modules. This enables older modules to update their solutions with minimal modifications to current hardware, reducing development time and costs while ensuring a smooth migration from LTE to 5G.

It also supports worldwide 5G NR sub-6GHz bands and runs in stand-alone (SA) mode alone, with the flexibility to transition to LTE modem as needed, and maybe deployed across private or public 5G networks using network slicing or in solitude. This solution is ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) applications that can be smoothly integrated with current ethernet and cable devices. The new modem includes longer life software/hardware service and repair, extending the life of IoT devices. This innovative solution will aid in the digital transformation of the 5G IIoT industry, hence spreading 5G for IoT.
