After using Ubuntu for a quite sometime, I was amazed that how can Windows is so popular when there are OS like Ubuntu? Why don`t people use this amazing piece of work? I strongly support the use of Ubuntu and here are some reasons why one should use it.
Free And Open Source
Who dares to buy a genuine Windows Operating System when it costs over $100 to $210? Some does..But thanks to Canonical Ltd who is sponsoring Ubuntu and is available to the user at no cost. And to add to it`s beauty, Ubuntu is an Open Source Operating System, with this you can tweak it to use it your way as the source code is available to the user.(under GPL)(A Little Bit for Geeks).
Virus Free
Virus! To deal with these Zombies, one has to install extra load of software’s and has to keep them up to date on Windows Operating System. And sometimes they even fails to act properly, there comes the real problem, no security. But Ubuntu on the other side is free from virus, no need to install anti-virus programs and no need to think of these Zombies penetrating your System. Feel Free. But, to aware you guys, Ubuntu is not 100% free from viruses. There are just a few 1000 viruses/malware for Ubuntu. But this negligible amount is less as compared to the billions of viruses/malware for Windows and still counting. So do we need any anti-virus for Ubuntu? No, because Ubuntu comes with a built-in Firewall and virus protection.
Loads Of Pre-Installed Software
Some of the best Open Source Software like Firefox, Gimp, Open Office are already installed on Ubuntu. Every time a user re-install a Windows Operating System, one has to waste a whole day just installing all these missing Software’s to make it suitable for one`s use. Such a waste of time and storage space. Ubuntu comes with loads of software`s pre-installed catering to all your needs.
You Name It, We Have It – Ubuntu Software Center
As I told you earlier, Ubuntu comes with loads of pre-installed software`s, but if you still feel that something is missing then Ubuntu Software Center should be your next venue. Just head over to this online store and feel free to demand anything you would like to have it in your Ubuntu. It`s an all in one stop for all your needs. No need to keep toiling the web for a specific software`s as one usually do for Windows Operating System.
Compatibility Factor
A great feature, which Windows Operating System cannot even think of, is the Compatibility Factor. What`s behind this? No need to install drivers or CDs to make your devices work. Just plug it in and the device is ready to roll on your commands. And to your surprise, it is also compatible with Windows. One can open ,edit, Microsoft Office documents.
Faster than Windows
Do you know the booting time of Ubuntu(Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition)? It`s a mere 7-8 seconds. Windows users keep staring at the screen! Moreover Windows Operating System tends to slow down over time, but that`s not the case with Ubuntu.
Ubuntu One
It`s the Ubuntu way of Cloud Computing. Sync and share your digital content over the cloud. 2 GB of free space is available for storage space which can be extended when required.
Some More Features
No reboot is required after installing a software in Ubuntu where Windows Operating System sometime requires reboot for the installation process to complete. No need to defragment the hard disks when Ubuntu is rolling on your hard disks, it`s all automatic. Just feel free to use it to get your work done.
Home Delivery
Eagerly waiting to try your hands on Ubuntu, then just order it from here or download it from here, it`s free.If you want to install to create a USB Drive then it`s all over there along with the tutorials. Windows users can install Ubuntu within the current system via Wubi(Windows Installer). If you do not feel like installing it you can try it directly before installing it or one can also try it online. Just head over to those links to try Ubuntu. Moreover Recent release of Ubuntu 11.04 is gonna be more alluring.
Which Operating System do you use? Have you ever tried Ubuntu? Drop your views via comments.
It isn’t better than Windows 7 or the Mac OS. Linux-fanboy-window-haters always obsess with the OS and GUI. Linux is great for the computer engineer, the network techie, but it is a fail for Everyman.
oh, its good for cell phones. But then the spinny cube desktop isnt as impressive.
Think I’ll install Warcraft, Blackberry Desktop, and I’ll enjoy a movie on Netflix while doing it — effortlessly on Win 7.
If you have not taken Unix/Linux 101 and 102 in college please do not use Linux, ever.
of course Ubuntu is open source
It is available Free that is True
but for using that is not an easy task every time u hv to depend Broadband connection that is pretty annoying but in windows we get stand alone packages ie EXE files which is easily runs on XP vista windows 7 or what ever version we have. I tried many deb. files in ubuntu but in most of the cases it ends up in request for Broadband connection.
Ubuntu has many many good features but every thing is not developed fully every feature has many undeveloped where we stop there without getting much support (without internet connection).
In windows I liked much is the help facility the help facility is offline and is easily search to find an answer to it.
one instance i found that I tried to install vlc media player I have downloaded its deb. file from another computer with an internet connection and tried to install the same in another computer without an internet connection but failed
My internal TV tuner is not recognised by Ubuntu I am using Pixelview tuner card but it works pretty well in XP & Win7
How ever It would like to appreciate the efforts made by Ubuntu team Ubuntu’s popularity will increase after they integrated the above said matters
thanks for the free OS..
I have been using Linux always. One thing community does not teach you is how to keep offline installation files. Internet is not always the abundant thing for all. There are more options than in windows to keep files offline.
1. After the files have been installed from Software Center go to /var/cache/apt/archives and copy the files to backup.
2. Find a deb file from the software download site as in windows rather than installing from Software Center
3. If there is no deb file download the source file from the site and either compile it in native binary or create a deb file using software like Ubucompilator and then distribute the deb files to your friends or rest of the world.
4. If you are lucky many files on internet are already in binary format. All you have to do is download, unzip and run the application.
Ubuntu started using it back in October last year, moved from Windows 7, hate it cost to much for stuff. Ubuntu its evolving everyday, new features, fresh ideas which are now its being used in Mac OS Lion with the slingshot apps screen, and Windows 8 with the apps filters. Both Mac and Windows are playing catch up.
All of my windows games I can play using Wine, OpenGL is used in Sony Playstation 3, who needs Direct X.
Ubuntu works very well on old and new machines, I have also installed Ubuntu Server at work, my boss was going to pay thousands for windows server 2008 and all of the licenses no need with Ubuntu Server, it works well as a file server, dhcp server, MySql server, who needs MS SQL again $$$$.
So all you people who I call sheep (followers) believe what the media tell you that only Mac and Windows exist open your eyes to open source. Its the future.
Windows and Mac OS is for people who don’t want to learn about their computer and do what they are told. Ubuntu Linux is for enjoying your computer and never being stung for having to purchase more licenses just because you want to install your $$ OS on a new machine then purchasing the software $$ so they can use it.
I am converted and never going back. Ubuntu Rocks!!!
Ubuntu is a better one good OS (I am New to Ubuntu)
I like this but I am dont like the internet connection requirement.
if you like to install an application offline there comes the problems in windows it is easy just donwload setup.exe or install.exe from internter and just double click on it and follow the instructions the programs are ready in the computer
Another thing is the help given in windows is better than ubuntu. but in ubuntu I find it very difficult to find a solution using ubuntu’s help .. for that also I have to depend internet I am using a system which do not have internet connection (I use internet from outside)
and about driver software I hav recently up graded my pc and installed a TV tuner card. In windows it works well. but ubuntu even recognize it.
If you like Ubuntu, you’ll love http://uberstudent.org
Yes this is one of the problem of ubuntu that we need to have a broadband for downloading softwares…i have dual booted my laptop and rarely use ubuntu..
Linux not a virus free OS.There is Linux virus .Ubuntu stop there home delivery(Free shipping).Ubuntu is not a Faster OS.For new computers it is faster. But for older computer’s Windows XP faster than Linux.
I use Linux(3 year).I tried Ubuntu,Linux Mint,Debian,Puppy,Kubuntu,Dream Linux and more. But in my opinion Windows XP is better for Old Computers.I hate Linux because of there features. We need broad band connection to install new software. But for Windows ,not require.
Windows come with plugins and media codes. But ordinary ubuntu version come without plugins. We need to install plugins to watch films
One more thing is that Ubuntu can be installed inside Windows but can’t do vice versa 😀
Good to know about this open source OS. Same thing is applicable with Linux , another open source OS.
I have heard a lot about Ubuntu but never got to use it as yet. Indeed it has got better features and specially it is free of cost.
