From smart watches that wouldn’t have looked out of place in sci-fi fictional movies not too long ago to smartphones packed with the most innovative features imaginable, this season’s gadgets promise to amaze even the most jaded of tech lovers. That said, the following are some of the best.
The Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
The Sony Xperia Z3 is a 6.4mm thick, 270gm tablet that Sony claims is the world’s lightest and slimmest. That is not to say that it lags behind in features as it comes with an impressive 2.5GHz quad-core processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processor, 3 gigabytes of RAM, and 16GB of storage, with support of up to 128GB of expandable memory through a MicroSD. It also adorns an 8-inch screen made of tempered glass, and ant fingerprint coating. One of its best features, especially for Playstation gamers is the ability to play PS4 games with it using PS4 Remote Play. Although the tablet shares some features with the Z3 phone, it has a larger 4500mAh battery, an 8.1 Mp camera at the back and another 2.1Mp one at the front.
The Nokia Lumia 735
Selfies have become the in thing among the tech-savvy crowd and this was what Microsoft focused on when creating the Nokia Lumia 735. It is a 4G smartphone with 4.7” OLED display and a 2.25D curved glass, which enables the user to achieve a good viewing angle, and enjoy watching clips and pictures with friends without sacrificing clarity. The High Definition 5MP front camera promises outstanding selfies and touts a lens that captures more of the user’s surroundings. On to the internal hardware, the Lumia 735 comes with a Snapdragon 1.2GHz, 400 quad core processor and 8 gigs of storage.
The Samsung Gear S smartwatch
The Samsung Gear S is the company’s answer to the Apple Watch. It comes with a 360×480 display, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and 3G, which is a capability that is currently right at the edge of the smartwatch technology territory and enables fast browsing speeds, especially if there is fibre optic broadband in the locale. It also features the basic wristwatch functionalities and a few extra bells and whistles such as Nike+ Running, a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, compass, and gyroscope, not to mention the HERE pedestrian turn-by-turn navigation, a range of highly customisable screen options, and an extra pair of straps. According to Samsung, the Gear S’ battery can last up to three days on a single charge, which is impressive, considering the number of functionalities and features.
Motorola’s Moto G
It is impossible to talk about the best gadgets of the season and not mention Motorola’s Moto G for the sole reason that it is the best selling phone that the company has ever made. The original version was launched together with the Moto X, and featured 4G. However, the Moto G became a favourite among consumers worldwide as a result of its decent looks, affordable price, features like its biometric sensors, and the high-res display. It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, 1.2GHz processor, 1 gigabyte of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
