In July last year, Sony joined the selfie arena with the launch of its first selfie-focused smartphone, the Xperia C3. The brand touted it as the world’s best selfie smartphone. This year, the company is back with the Xperia C3’s successor, the Sony Xperia C4 Dual. The new device offers slightly upgraded features to impress the selfie lovers.
If you are thinking about purchasing a new selfie-centric smartphone, the Xperia C3 Dual and Xperia C4 Dual are among some of the best offerings. However, which one is better, the C4 Dual or C3 Dual, let’s compare their specs to find out.
Sony Xperia C4 Dual vs Sony Xperia C3 Dual: the successor or predecessor?
For selfies, the Sony Xperia C4 Dual and Xperia C3 Dual, both offer 5MP front cameras with 25mm wide-angle lenses and soft LED flash. Both have Exmor RS sensors which delivers sharp pictures with low noise even in low light conditions. Coming to the rear camera, the Xperia C3 Dual offers an 8MP autofocus shooter with an LED flash, the Xperia C4 Dual on the other hand has a better 13MP AF camera coupled with an LED flash. Both are loaded with the company's suite of camera apps like AR Mask and Style Portrait. Overall, the Xperia C4 has better imaging capabilities than the Xperia C3.
Design wise, the Sony Xperia C4 Dual and Xperia C3 Dual, both offer almost similar design, and are being offered in usual vibrant hues. However, placement of the rear camera is different along with the speaker grill. The Xperia C4 Dual is 7.9mm around the waist, while the Xperia C3 Dual is slightly slimmer at 7.6mm. The former is three grams lighter than the latter at 147 grams.
The Xperia C3 Dual arrived with a large 5.5-inch display bearing a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, resulting into a pixel density of 267ppi. The Xperia C4 Dual has the same 5.5-inch screen, but offers a full HD resolution display panel with a much higher pixel density of 401ppi, so it delivers better media experience than the Xperia C3 Dual.
The Sony Xperia C3 Dual is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, aided by 1GB of RAM and an Adreno 305 GPU. The Xperia C4 Dual on the other hand is fuelled by a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek processor, coupled with a Mali-T760 MP 2 GPU and 2GB of RAM. So the Xperia C4 Dual clearly delivers better performance than the C3 Dual. The Xperia C4 Dual has 16GB of internal memory, further expandable up to 128GB, and Xperia C3 Dual has 8GB of flash memory, which is further expandable up to 32GB. On the software front, the C3 Dual arrived with Android KitKat, while the C4 Dual offers the latest Android Lollipop out of the box.
Connectivity and Battery
The Xperia C3 Dual offers the usual set of connectivity options including dual-SIM slots, 3G, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and micro-USB. However, the Xperia C4 Dual supports India’s 4G LTE bands to offer high speed data downloading. Coming to the battery, the Xperia C3 Dual offers a 2,500mAh unit, while the Xperia C4 Dual is loaded with a slightly bigger, 2,600mAh battery.
The Sony Xperia C3 Dual is still a decent selfie-centric device with a large display and quad-core computing. The device is currently retailing around Rs 15,000 on the e-commerce websites. However, the Sony Xperia C4 Dual brings better primary camera, latest software, a faster octa-core processor, double the RAM and storage than the C3 Dual, and is future ready device with support for 4G LTE networks. Although it is expected to be priced around Rs 24,000, but the upgrades worth the price. So which one is your pick? Share in the comments.
